Lowrance is well know for its' marine electronics. They are most noted for their GPS system that is connected with their fishfinders. But they also have a navigational GPS system for waterways. As well as several different GPS systems for hiking and backpacking.

The Endura Sierra has top of the line mapping, sensor navigation and multimedia capabilities. It is very easy to use with a simple touch screen interfacie and buttons for quick access to all features. It is fully loaded with over 3GB of detailed topography. This is one you will want to further check out.
The Endura Safari is the most versatile handheld GPS system for any outdoor activity. It is very easy to use and has a colored screen. There are several options you can choose to customize it. It also includes an MP3 player. This is a great gift for your teenager.
The Endura Out and Back is a basic outdoor GPS system that is meant to be customized. You add your favorite options to it to get exactly what you want. There is also the Elite 5m Baja—this is specifically for off road vehicles. It has an internal 16 channel GPS+WAAS antenna and a lot of extras you would never think of - but will find very handy. Check this out if you are into off-roading.
There is another group of products many are searching for--- the Legacy series. These have recently been discontinued. They include the ifinder and the XOG. You might be able to find them on ebay, but replacement parts may be hard to find.
Marine GPS
There are several different series of marine GPS. The top of the line is the High Definition System - HDS series. This includes both sonar and broadband capabilities. The options available are endless. You can even get sirius radio and weather reports. There is a networking system available to connect with other fishermen or boats. The GPS system can also be connected to a worldwide waterway system. Almost anything you can think of or desire can be delivered to you in an existing system or with add on options.
There is also the Mark System that can deliver an endless variety of maps. Most of these are about 5 inches. Some can be installed and others can be mounted or handheld. The variety and options available is also very extensive.
The Elite System is for the budget minded. While the first two systems have color screens - this one is also available in a black and white screen. You can get a really good basic package at a very reasonable price and then just add the special options you want. The GPS or mapping system on these can be tailored to your specifications.
